Realtors have always referred their valuable mortgage business to mortgage companies. For their referrals, they hoped for just a few things; good service, timely responses, and above all honesty.
A Realtor might also receive a thank you or a pat on the back. A mortgage originator might even on occasion stop by the office with a pizza to share. "Getting Paid on Referrals" they were told was illegal. What they weren't told was that if they were a licensed loan originator and received their clients permission to originate the loan, they could do much of the work for a fair hourly fee!!
